Choose a target before compressing
Start with the real requirement: an email attachment limit, a faster upload, or a lighter archive copy. Text-first PDFs often shrink differently from scanned documents because scans contain full-page images. Keep the original file, create a separate compressed copy, and avoid repeatedly compressing an already reduced result.
Check representative pages
Compare the output with the original at normal size and at 200% zoom. Review the page with the smallest text, the most detailed image, any barcode or signature, and any form or table that must remain readable. Confirm the page count and test search, links, and form fields when they are part of the document.
